TAXI (TX1/TX2/TX3/TX4) Power Steering Boxes and Pumps

The Taxi TX1/TX2/TX3 & TX4 uses a typical hydraulic power steering system which includes a Power Steering Box and Power Steering Pump – linked together with hydraulic power steering pipes (one high pressure and one low pressure).

Below we’ve listed the most common faults with the power steering components on the Taxi and this should hopefully help you diagnose any faults you’re experiencing and replace the right parts

Pumps common fault

• Leaking
• Noisy / Whining
• Loss of Power Steering (When Idling)
• Loss of Power Steering (When Idling & Whilst Revving)

Boxes common fault

• Leaking
• Loss of Power Steering (When Idling & Whilst Revving)
• Steering Goes Heavy (Either Way)
• Knocking From Steering
• Excessive Play in Steering Wheel

We also repair the Idler arms if they become faulty – we do not carry stock for idler arms so this would be an own unit rebuild.

As you can see from the above, some of the problems can occur in both a Power Steering box and a Power Steering Pump fault – for example having Loss of Power and leaking but if you’re unsure as to what may be causing this problem, then give us a call and we would be happy to assist you in diagnosing the problem further.
