Suzuki Splash Electric Power Steering Rack Repairs

Is your Suzuki Splash currently losing power when idling? Does it suffer from heavy steering either way? If so, this could be due to a faulty Electric Power Steering Rack!

The Suzuki Splash is fitted with the modern Electric Power Steering, which consists of a Power Steering Rack with an electric motor, Power Steering Pump and high pressure and low pressure hydraulic pipes which connect them together. While electric steering is a lot more economical to run, as well as easier to package and install than the conventional hydraulic systems, it is still known to commonly fail on the Suzuki Splash.

It is interesting to note that the symptoms of failure on the Electric Power Steering Rack are very similar to that which are found on the Electric Steering pumps, therefore we find that it is important to check the faults that can also exist with the EPS pump to ensure that it actually is the rack that is defective.

Several power steering components on the Suzuki Splash suffer from similar symptoms when faulty therefore we have listed below both the Electric Power Steering Pump as well as the Electric Steering Rack most common faults that have been found, which should allow you to distinguish whether a further diagnosis is necessary to identify the defective part:

Common Suzuki Splash Electric Steering Pump Faults:

  • Leaking / Loss of Oil
  • Whining
  • Heavy Steering (Either Way)
  • Loss of Power (When Idling)
  • Loss of Power (When Idling & Whilst Revving)

Common Suzuki Splash Electric Power Steering Rack Issues:

  • Leaking / Loss of Oil
  • Steering Light On Dash
  • Steering Fault Codes Won’t Clear
  • Loss of Power (When Idling & Whilst Revving)
  • Heavy Steering (Either way)
  • Heavy Steering (One-Way)
  • Knocking From Steering
  • Excessive Play in Steering Wheel
  • Excessive Play in Track-Rod Arms

My  Suzuki Splash is suffering from one of the faults listed above – How can Power Steering help?

As you will be able to tell from the list above, that the Power Steering Rack and the Power Steering Pump suffer from some faults that are identical, for example, loss of power when idling and revving, therefore generally a further diagnosis is always recommended.  Here at Power Steering, we remanufacture all types of steering components, carrying the most common failing parts in stock. All hydraulic parts come with a 2 year warranty and electric parts now come with our Lifetime warranty.

So if you are having any of the issues listed above and are unsure as to which component is causing the problem, then give us a call on 0208 853 3343 and we will be more than happy to assist you in diagnosing the problem further.

Alternatively, you can also drive down to our workshop where one of our highly specialised engineers will be happy to take a look at your vehicle to give you an expert opinion regarding the problem.

  • I have a 09 suzuki swift 1.3 DDI, when I turn the steering wheel left everything’s fine, when I turn it right it’s as if there is no power steering and very heavy. I am in Scotland, any repairers up here.
