The Fiat Punto’s steering system is not conventionally hydraulic, it utilises an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system which includes an Electric Steering Column. The column comes complete with an ECU coded to the vehicle and a motor.
Because the ECU’s are coded to the vehicle, it makes it harder for people to just swap and change them for a second hand unit unless the part numbers match up correctly.
The common faults with this system is that the EPS light, lights up on the dash and the steering goes heavy. There are a number of reasons why this happens but mainly because of the load on the electrical system. The primary reason for it’s failure is the “City Mode” feature. The City Mode function was designed purely for parking purposes only, however people that use this function more frequently risk overloading their electrical system and burning out the Fiat Punto’s electrical steering column, which could cost in excess of £600 new from Fiat’s main dealer.
We are able to remanufacture these units and due to popular demand, we now carry these units in stock ready to be dispatched/fitted same day. We also offer a full 12 months (1 Year) warranty with these units – The same warranty you get from buying a new unit from your local main dealer.

Remember, there is no guarantee when buying a used part because you never know how the previous owner had driven the vehicle, with us you get the full warranty giving you peace of mind.
