The BMW Flat Back type LUK power steering pump is one we keep in stock ready on the shelf for dispatch. We sell 100′s of these and are able to sell them NEW and Remanufactured at a very affordable price.
When the LUK Flat back pump fails, you may experience one or more of the following effects:
If you find your power steering feels heavy one way or heavier one way then the other then this problem may not be the pump. The pumps job is simply to pump fluid around the power steering system at high pressure (it is not dependant on which way you turn the wheel) so this should not be a factor at all. The rack however can effect how heavy the steering is one way so if your steering feels heavy one way, then chances are the problem is within your rack.
The most common problem on the flat back type LUK pump for the BMW is that it loses pressure due to internal wear of the moving parts which is very similar to the problems that occur on a domed shape LUK pump which is also for a BMW, however, saying that.. the problems occur more commonly on a domed shape pump then on the flat backs.
When we say flat or domed shape, we are referring to the back plate of the pump.
They do of course have other issues from general wear and tear over the years such as leaking from the back plate and behind the pulley boss. Due to the high demand on these pumps we keep remanufactured ones in stock and also brand new genuine units which surprisingly will not cost you a lot from us and you’ll still get a full 1 years international warranty with your purchase.
This means your warranty will cover you whichever country you are in and at no extra cost!
If you’re unsure of which type of pump your BMW has or you’re unable to match yours up with one from our picture then give us a call as we may be able to bring both types out to match. The domed shape pump was fitted to most BMW’s after 2000/2001 and the flat back power steering pump was fitted to most BMW’s pre-2001. Early BMW’s had a different style of pump on them and we carry those in stock too.
For more information on the LUK BMW pumps, please call us on 08712 88 44 80 today!
The power steering pumps from the older BMW’s were much more reliable. It seems the later models have come fitted with a new Domed Shaped power steering pump, manufactured by LUK and with many common failures, most of which cause them to lose pressure or fail to hold pressure for as long as required. When we say domed shape, we’re referring to the back plate on the pump being domed shape. They are also failing on their level of noise, overtime they are becoming noisy and in some cases leak air into the system and fluid out which eventually will cause the pump to run dry and cause excessive wear to the internal moving parts.
Due to the popular demand, we keep the very latest design of these pumps – Genuine LUK parts, on the shelf and ready for dispatch. They are a direct replacement to those that come fitted to the vehicle and to this day we have proven to succeed the expectations from our trade clients and are now offering these pumps direct to the public at a very affordable price.
The Domed Shape LUK pumps have a tendency to snap the internal shaft in which case almost any company would charge a surcharge due to the pump being unrepairable. We are aware of these common faults and will not charge you or hold on to any surcharge. So if you’re having a steering issue which relates to the power steering pump, check first to see whether it’s a domed shaped LUK pump and if it is, give us a call today and let us help you.
When we say domed shape, we’re referring to the back plate on the pump.
These pumps are sold brand new and are genuine LUK parts. LUK requires it’s customers old pumps back and do not sell direct to garages or the public, we sell these pumps on an exchange basis so that we can return the old core units back to LUK. If you would like to purchase a pump but have not yet removed the old unit, a surcharge may apply but will be refunded once the old unit is returned to us.
We have reasons to believe that the pumps we’re selling although are direct replacements to the units fitted as standard to all new BMW’s, are of an exceptionally higher quality. We offer all our parts with a full 1 Years warranty, the same warranty you’d get for buying direct from Main Dealer and yet we have not had any returns on these pumps.
Surprisingly enough we get calls all the time from garages and members of the public requiring “replacement” or “new” racks because their rack has excessive play and most assume or are advised wrongly that it cannot be rectified.
We are able to remanufacture rack & pinions and fully test & adjust all power steering racks to eliminate any excessive play.
With track rod arms (inner arms), the excessive play is within the ball joints and most people try to find replacements but again chances are you’d have to buy a complete rack and it’s not necessary, we can still repair these to eliminate the play.
So if you have a rack suffering from excessive play, knocking noises from the ball joints or so on.. then give us a call today and we’ll get the job done.

It’s quite common on some of the Volvo’s that the steering becomes lighter than usual, in some cases only one-way.. the opposite way can still feel normal. Most frequently, drivers of the Volvo 820 & 825′s experience this problem and are advised by others to change their pumps but this is not necessarily the case.
The power steering pump only pumps fluid around the system, it is not dependant on which way you turn the wheel and so if the problem exists only one-way, you can outrule a pump problem.
The volvo’s common extremely light steering problem is due to problems within the rack and a simple replacement of seals and o-rings will not rectify this fault. The rack requires specialist repairs to ensure that the problem is permanantly fixed. Most people would advise of a new unit which is very costly, or even a replacement unit (second hand) but what’s to say that won’t go wrong 3 months down the line when it’s out of warranty?
We have qualified engineers on site able to carry out successful repairs on these racks saving you a lot of money as you no longer need to go down the route of purchasing a new unit – We even give you the same 1 Years warranty a manufacturer would!
But our services do not stop there, due to popular demand we now have these units in stock, on the shelf and ready to exchange. We also offer a free collect/return service dependant on your location and will even collect your vehicle to carry out the removal/installation of your unit for you if you would like us to do so.
We can repair all types of turbo charger units, for an instant quote simply give us a call on 08712 88 44 80 today. Below we give advice and information to help protect you and your turbo chargers for the future along with common failures.
Quite often the widely available GT28 Garrett turbo charger units are failing on vehicles, which 9/10 times is due to their respective owners not knowing how to effectively take care of a turbocharger unit, however, it is possible for turbochargers to fail due to wear & tear. Below we describe a few possible causes of failure.
When the engine is cold, the oil is thick and so will not get around the mechanical components i.e. the turbo charger quick enough to protect it effectively. – You need to give the turbo charger time to become fully lubricated before allowing it to spool up.
When the turbo charger has spooled up and the turbine is spinning in tune with your acceleration, all is good. When you release the accelerator, pressure will begin immediately building up within the turbo charger housing. This will cause the turbo charger to slow down, stop or even “reverse” it’s spinning motion. The reversal is called a “back-spin” and as you can imagine, is not healthy at all for a turbo charger unit.
To eliminate back spin we suggest using a BOV (blow off valve) with your turbo charged vehicles if it is not already fitted with a factory unit.
Another way back spin is caused is when you do not allow your turbo charger enough time to cool down before switching the vehicle off. When you’ve had a long run and the turbo was spooled up for some time, the impeller(s) are spinning at very fast rpm, you must give the turbine time to slow down gradually and simultaneously cool down – but if you switch your engine off immediately, you risk damaging the turbo charger or at least reducing the life expectancy of the turbo charger unit.
When a turbo charger fails, you can expect to notice any of the following effects:
Whatever the problem with your Garrett turbo charger unit, rest assured we can rebuild it OE standards using only OE Specification replacement parts. We not only remanufacture Garrett turbo chargers, we do all other types of turbo’s as well but you must call us with your part numbers prior to sending your unit in as prices do vary.

There are many common faults which arise in all the power steering rack & pinions across the Volvo range, including the 740, V70, S70, C70 and so on.. The most common of problems include:
Of course we can remanufacture all Volvo steering racks and above are just some of the common faults our customers are faced with and what we’re presented with on a day-to-day basis. In some cases, we can even repair/replace any track rods which are bent or damaged so if you think you may need one, give us a call to find out more.
In regards to broken / snapped mounting brackets on the Volvo power steering racks, it is a very common fault and in which situation we are able to weld the brackets back on to the rack “Without damaging the rack!” – This is not something that should be attempted by your local garage, we are specialists in what we do and it takes more than 30 Yrs of welding experience to weld these brackets successfully without damaging the internals of the Rack & Pinion.
If you have a power steering unit with any of the faults above or any other faults for that matter, call us today on 08712 88 44 80.
A similar common fault to that of the BMW Mini with the electric Power Steering Pumps, the unit in this Mercedes A-Class is also an electric power steering pump and it is known to continuously run until it eventually burns out.
The continuous running of these pumps is not what they were designed to do. You turn the engine off and walk away from the car, you can still hear the pump running. – It is draining the power from the battery and eventually burns out the motor and circuitry.
We can remanufacture these pumps, i.e. rebuild your own units but due to the popular demand we are no carrying these units in stock as well, ready to exchange with you same day.
We can also offer a very affordable fitting service for this pump in which we can include a free collect & return of your vehicle (dependant on your location). We also work with 1000′s of garages nationwide so if you’d prefer to just have the pump delivered to you, give us a call today on 08712 88 44 80.
The Vauxhall Corsa’s have a very common problem with their electric power steering columns to become biased one-way. This means that rather than having an evenly light power steering at the wheel.. it becomes quite hard to steer one way and easier to steer in the opposite direction.
Many garages, companies and even main dealers will tell you that you require a new unit (Electric Steering Column) complete with motor and ecu.. the costs even for the part alone would be enough to consider not repairing the vehicle!
We here at Power Steering Services are able to rectify the fault in situe! – Yes, this means we’re able to fix the problem without having to change an expensive electric power steering column.
We charge a fixed affordable fee for our service and require the vehicle for up to 2 hours. In this time, a technician will confirm the faults and carry out any necessary repairs with the column in situe (without having to remove it from the vehicle).
Once the repair has been completed, the technician will confirm a fully functional unit and issue you a full 12 months (1 Years) warranty – The same warranty you’d get for buying a new unit.. but at a fraction of the cost!
So before you dig deep in your pockets, give us a call on 08712 88 44 80 today!
There are commonly two types of power steering pumps on the Renault Megane’s, Scenic’s and Laguna’s:
It is a common problem for them to leak but more common on the aluminium types because the back plates fail under pressure which causes complete loss of power steering making it go heavy and loss of power steering hydraulic oil.
A simple rebuild is not adequate to repair these units successfully. If the pump is not correctly machined it will fail again over time if not instantly.
We have qualified engineers on site to re-machine these pumps correctly so that the problem factors are eliminated to ensure that the power steering pump will not fail again.
We offer a full 12 months (1 Year) warranty giving our customers complete peace of mind that when giving us your units to rebuild, they are built to the highest standards of quality.
We also have these pumps on the shelf ready to exchange same day so if you are in need of one, give us a call on 08712 88 44 80 today. Our rates are most competitive!

The Skoda Fabia’s are fitted with electric power steering pumps combined with hydraulic reservoirs on the top. It is a common failure for these pumps to burn out and stop working.
Sometimes it will happen suddenly, a complete loss of power steering, however, a majority of the times our customers experience intermittent loss of power steering which then gradually progresses to complete loss of power.
We carry these units in stock due to their popular demand and also when out of stock, can offer a customers own unit rebuild at most competitive rates. All our units come with a full 12 months (1 Year) warranty.. just like buying a brand new unit but without the expensive price tag!
